[RC] Pulling Trailers - Antonio_CorbellettaA few comments on pulling trailers with smaller vehicles. The two main things to keep in mind are 1. Do you have enough brakes to do the job. By this I mean can the vehicle stop the rig and stop MANY TIMES without the brakes fading. Many if not all the smaller vehicles and this I include half ton trucks do not have enough brakes to handle large loads. Therefore, you must tow with these vehicles get a smaller, lighter trailer like the brenderup(sp?). Stay within the manufacturer's weight limits. Some of the smaller vehicles I have seen have very tiny tiny brakes! Just be careful. Go slow. Sometimes you can put larger brakes on, and I just do not mean pads, I mean the whole thing like rotors, calipers, drums all bigger. But this, if it can be done is very expensive. Keep this in mind: One of the first things we do to a race car is beef up the brakes if we can, ie allowed by the rules. There is a reason for that...Some posts have said that they pull with a half ton and have no problems, maybe, but they are staying within the weight limits of the vehicle and then they may be or should be driving slow. 2. Stability: The short wheelbase vehicles like a 4Runner are not stable. Just be very careful and drive slow with a smaller trailer. So on these kinds of vehicles, you run into two problems, smaller brakes and a short wheelbase. The post that mentioned an overturned 4Runner and trailer, that is what can happen. It is physics... Notice that the Europeans are towing much smaller trailers, that is OK since the vehicles are much smaller. Enjoy the ride, take it slow, Tony C ----------------------------------------- ************************************************** IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR RECIPIENTS IN THE U.S.A: This message may constitute an advertisement of BD group's products or services or a solicitation of interest in them.
