I know it's one of those necessary evils and I do use paste wormers about 4 times a year. But I've heard from so many people who have had problems with horses after they've started the daily wormers. Of course, tehre's probably an equal number of people who use them successfully, so it's one of those things you make your own decision about.
I'd think that white gums and low iron signals that there's some bleeding going on. Might this horse be one that should be scoped for ulcers? You can treat him with an iron supplement, but it doesn't get at the cause of the problem.
