RE: Subject: RE: [RC] catching up regarding beet pulp, pt 1 - LisaThis is great info, thanks! So then my next question is what would be considered a high fat meal for a 1,000 pound horse? A typical feeding for my mare is 3/4 cup of Cocosoya oil, 2 cups of rice bran, and 2 pounds of soaked beet pulp (+ mineral supplement, probiotics and plenty of grass hay). Is this meal too high in fat for the amount of gall available? Actually the gall bladder just stores gall it does not produce it. Horses do produce gall, they just can't store up a supply to realease right after a big meal. Both my parents, along with many humans, had their gall bladders removed. They ate fat fine, as long as they did not pig out on a very high fat meal.
