Let's not forget what Lance has and Rio had.  Extraordinary large hearts.  I 
heard on the radio that Lance has an
exceptionally large heart and the person who had worked with Lance (I believe 
it was him) made the comparison of Lance's heart pumping blood like a gas 
station pump.  I recall an Equus
article that did work on Rio and he had an exceptionally large
heart for his size.  Conditioning and training probably helps,
but inherent physical attributes don't hurt. 

As for just reading abstracts, mmm almost made that mistake
when writing my thesis, won't do that again.  For those
interested in the beet pulp stuff, the most compelling argument
I read was the foal article and bone development. But I haven't 
read all the articles.
