hint: Always look across the stream to where you are going. . . DO NOT
look down at the crossing as you approach.
Helpful
hint #2: If you are going to make any adjustment in rein length, seat,
or legs do so far in advance of the stream then remain relaxed, no twitching,
or even thinking that your horse won't cross.
Helpful
hint #3: Better to cross first, then turn the horse back to drink.
That way you are not "telling" your horse to stop before crossing the
stream.
Caveat: None of these hints may work if your
horse is really resistant or frightened but they can make a big
difference if your horse is sort of on the fence about whether or not to
cross.
