Re: [RC] Since we are on the subject of water - rdcarrie

My current horse will not hesitate to pee whenever he needs to.  My husband's Paso was at first a little reluctant to pee under saddle, usually waiting till we got back to the trailer, then peeing as soon as Ross dismounted.  Now he, too, will stop on his own whenever he needs to pee.  Takes some of them longer than others to figure it out.  My horse peed three times on an 18.7 mile loop on our 50 this past weekend.

I find myself the rider of the most amazing gelding....he often pees within 1/2 mile of the start of a pleasure or conditioning ride here at home, and then frequently pees again before returning home.  Total distance ridden: 7 miles at most.  I've never ridden a horse like him.  I can usually feel him needing to pee, and sure enough, a few feet farther down the trail and he stops, positions himself and lets go.  Then he contentedly gathers himself and moves down the trail.  Never ceases to amaze me.  I've ridden geldings that are miserably uncomfortable for miles before they can actually do something about it.

Try riding with other horses...often, when one pees, it triggers the others to pee.  Or if you always ride alone, try getting off and peeing next to her yourself.  I'm not kidding...whe I stop to pee, it gets my geldings to pee every time.  I have to make sure I'm in front of them or well away from them so that I don't get splattered while I'm...ummm...inconvenienced and can't move.
