Anyway, based on this information I would be interested to know if the horse that was going back out on another loop with 103 degree body temperature in the heat and humidity ever had any metabolic problems or lost interest in food or water on those rides or had low gut sounds etc. Has anyone else taken their horse's body temperature on hot humid rides in the South? Very rarely. This was Kahlil Khai, AERC Hall of Fame (and Perfect Ten), 18 years of competition and 11,525 miles completed. He's still living at 32 years old. I used a digital rectal thermometer to take his temperature. I know that some other riders did the same, and some ride vets did as well. The Old Dominion had a temperature criteria for returning to the trail, I believe it was 102.5 degrees. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
