[RC] Question about a horse who sweats easily - Kristi SchaafI have a race-bred (but culled as a yearling because he was too stocky) 7 yoa, 15 hand, 1050 lb, 28 resting heart rate flea-bitten gray Arab whom I hope I will someday do 50's on (we've been a year or two behind my plan but I'm hoping next year is the start of his distance 'career'). Anyway, I have a question about his sweat output. We've had some really hot steamy days lately (105 heat index, 80% humidity), and of my three horses (none of which are more than pleasure riding fit right now), this guy sweats by FAR the most while grazing in the pasture. On a really steamy day, the overweight bay may sweat between his cheeks, my retired small grey (white) Arab has little to no sweat, but this horse (who is naturally much more fit and has less fat and better muscle definition than the other two) is soaked with sweat, mostly concentrated on his shoulders, flanks and hindquarters. I have heard that exceptional human athletes often sweat more than the average joe, and I'm wondering if this pertains to horses or if that is wishful thinking on my part...he he he. OK - this long-winded background leads to my question: is this possibly a positive, negative or neutral trait in a distance horse? Thanks, Kristi iluvdez at yahoo dot com Life's a journey, so enjoy the ride (and try not to fall off) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
