[RC] Paper - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: ti Tivers@xxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== Physiology is physiology. Jon K. Linderman, Ph.D., FACSM Assistant Professor of Health and Sport Science University of Dayton 300 College Park Dayton, OH 45469-1210> Yep. The horse is not from Mars. Good to see an exercise scientist here. In the paper cited I was more interested in the differences between carb/fat pre-race meals. And in the endurance horse, more interested in carb supplementation during exercise. with repeated supplementation at the rate of about 4 oz of a long chained sugar we see a gradual overall increase in plasma glucose throughout. Since the doses are so small, and the distance so long, it is hard to understand this rise other than due to gluconeogenesis. Whenever I see the phrase "glycogen sparing" in relation to a high fat diet, I read it as "inhibits glycogen metabolism". I've talked to Ken about his paper but as yet cannot get to it because of no university affiliation/database account. Asked him to send it to me last week. ti =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
