[RC] Field trials - part one - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

Steph/John I hope you let this go through.

I am only going to do this once and will not respond, privately or on RC, to
the flame throwers that are sure to follow. I am a private person and not a
writer. RC readers can make of it what they wish. It represents the truth. I do
not wish to get into another ?prove it? session. The last one was an extreme
invasion of privacy and what my wife had to endure from all of the questions
and the harassment during the time of her father?s ill health and the fear of
his death and that was more than any human should have to experience.

I had very lofty goals in mind and Mr. Ivers, along with others (Wolfgang comes
to mind) helped me to map out a long term game plan to attain those goals. I
had a chance to field test a new product, AGL, that he had developed and I
jumped at the chance.
The field trials took place over several months, they where real, the trail
that I had set up was measured out by a surveyor with markers every half mile.
The trail was partially on my land and on the neighbors land

To give the readers of this forum a brief look at what was involved in the
field trials below are a few of examples. The first is a field trial using AGL,
the second is a field trial testing the blood glucose levels during a
conditioning session.
The field trials with the AGL was a little proprietary so forgive me Tom for
putting this up on this forum.
Also below you will find a few email exchanges between Tom, myself and a vet
that consults with Tom from time to time. I am not listing the name of the Vet
as I do not know if they would want their name used in this posting.

First the AGL field trial.

7th test of the effect of AGL on an endurance horse conditioning ride
consisted of the following: loop #1 - 26 miles (2-13 mile loops back to back,
2nd being run in opposite direction) 60 min hold loop #2 - 13 miles 30 min
hold loop #3 - 26 miles (same as loop 1) total of 65 miles (same as test 6)
trail conditions - damp but not muddy water troughs placed 7 miles into the
13 mile loop and at start/finish line all 3 loops to be ran as fast as
possible. efficiency test will not be done. Note: total ride times include
water stops, time to meet HR criteria and time to take glucose readings just
prior to AGL supplement.

3 oz of AGL and 1 1/2 oz of e-lytes where mixed together and then mixed with
water and a small amount of applesause.

1-26-01 weather - 54 F, sunny, humidity 55% 2hrs prior to start of ride 3 oz of
AGL mixed with 4lbs of soaked grain during tacking up horse calm and alert,
slightly excited but no more than normal HR 34 respiration 9 lounged 10 min
(warm-up) gave AGL+e-lyte dose 15min prior to start 9am left on first loop HR
38 trotted our first mile then went to canter alternated between slow canter
and fast canter with approx 2 mile of trot HR 128 (high of 146 low of 102 but
at 128 90% of loop, respiration normal, went to full gallop at mile 10 for 2
miles (HR 146) then back to canter. Stopped for water at mile 7, horse not
interested. Stopped at mile 13 (start/finish line) for water, horse drank a
little Stopped at mile 19 at 10:30am took glucose reading 106. Gave AGL+e-lyte
mix. 12 min spent at stop.

subjective feel of horse - running well, no distress, canter was steady, went
to a full gallop very easily, horse seemed to be full of get up and go, not a
nervous energy but wanting to run. 1/4mile from barn (HR 112) loped to barn HR
at 78 at barn removed bit and saddle (approx 2 min), HR at 60 (total recovery
time 2 min). respiration 10 11:14am

total ride time 2 hr 14 min

60 min hold gave 3lb of soaked grain and fresh water horse ate and drank well
12 noon took glucose reading 118 gave AGL+e-lyte mix 12:15 pm left on 2nd loop
HR 39 trotted our first mile then went to canter alternated between slow canter
and fast canter with approx 2 miles of trot. HR 132 (high of 152 low of 108 but
at 132 90% of loop), respiration normal, went to full gallop at mile 6 for 2
miles (HR 150) then back to canter. Stopped for water at mile 7, horse drank
well,

subjective feel of horse - running well, no distress, canter was steady and
strong, went to full gallop very easily, no signs of over excitement, wanting
to run most of the time. 1/4mile from barn (HR 111) loped to barn HR at 81 at
barn removed bit and saddle (approx 2 min), HR at 60 (total recovery time 2
min) respiration 10 1:18 pm

total ride time 1 hr 3 min

30 min hold gave 3lb of soaked grain and fresh water horse ate and drank well
took glucose reading 120 1:40 pm gave AGL+e-lyte mix 1:50 pm left on 3nd loop
HR 46 trotted our first 1/2 mile then went to canter alternated between slow
canter and fast canter with approx 2 mile of trot HR 136 (high of 154 low of
106 but at 136 90% of loop, respiration normal, went to full gallop at mile 4
for 1 mile (HR 152) then back to canter. Stopped for water at mile 7, horse
drank very well Stopped at mile 13 (start/finish line) for water, horse drank
well Went to full gallop at mile 15 for 1 mile (HR 154) Mile 19 3:10 pm took
glucose reading 103 Gave AGL+e-lyte mix 15 min spent at stop

subjective feel of horse - running well wanted to run full tilt most of the
time but not uncontrollable, no distress, canter was steady but animated, went
to full gallop very easily, still full of energy but not nervous energy.
1/4mile from barn (HR 114) loped to barn HR at 90 at barn removed bit and
saddle (approx 2 min), HR at 65, HR at 60 within 2 min (total recovery time 4
min). respiration 11 4:06 pm

total ride time 2 hr 16 min

cooled out horse, wiped down. HR at 47 in 15min horse showed no signs of
fatigue at finish hand walked for 15 min then turned out in 100' x100' paddock
4 lbs of grain and free fed grass hay and water horse ate grain well and drank
well no signs of nervous energy or hyperactivity but was still active and
moving well and no signs of fatigue checked condition every hour for 8 hrs HR,
resp and gut sounds normal 5:00 pm gave 2oz of GL with 1 1/2oz e-lytes
(seperate syringe) and 1 1/2 oz GL at 7:00 pm and 1 oz GL at 10:00pm
blood glucose readings

8:40am - 20 min before start - 121
10:30am (prior to 1st ride dose) - 106
12noon (prior to 2nd ride dose) - 118
1:40pm (prior to 3rd ride dose) - 120
3:10pm (prior to 4th ride dose) - 103
4:10pm (finish) - 139
prior to 5:00pm dose of GL - 126
prior to 7:00pm dose -115
prior to 10:00pm dose - 96

These numbers look odd to me but readings where written down at time reading
was taken so I would not have to rely on memory. Should have taken readings
15-30 min after doses. Horse was turned out in pasture the next day and showed
no signs of hyper activity or fatigue. overall observations horse became
slightly more full of energy during each loop but not uncontrollable, little if
any fatigue, still had plenty of horse left after the 3th loop gut sounds at
all stops where very good Do not know when next test will be on this horse.
