[RC] RC: How do you pick the horse - DESERTRYDR1

A good back to put a saddle on, not too wide in the withers.

A good, people loving temperament, or at least one that YOU get along with.

Overall balanced conformation, not heavy at one end or the other, not a long
back, but not exceptionally short either.

Acts like they want to do stuff with you--willingness.

Fairly deep chested for their size, not halter-built.

Fairly straight legs, especially not toed out.

Nice decent sized hooves.

Sensible, not TOO spooky.

I think the best endurance horses are probably nearer to the top than the
bottom of the pecking order, but the ones at the top can be more spooky,
because
they think they're responsible for everyone's welfare.

I'm sure there are lots of other things. That's the list I went through when
I bought my yearling mule three years ago, looking for an endurance prospect.
Next year we'll see. She's just barely started under saddle. Best of luck,
jeri
