Strong back, straight legs and good feet. What else would be important to you? Personality. I like a horse that is willing and curious. Let me add something that no one else has mentioned. I want a horse that's a little bit lazy. Because he will take care of himself, and let you know when he's getting tired instead of going until he drops. Also (and this goes along with "a little bit lazy") a horse that is content to bop along wherever in line we happen to be, and not be in a dither to get up front. The only time I like to be out in front is in the last few miles! I often say at rides, "No one has ever won an endurance ride in the first ten miles. Many people have lost the ride in the first ten miles." Believe me, after a few rides my horses learned the difference between "going down the trail" and "time to go for the win." It's something I train for. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
