[RC] improved racing times - Dot Wiggins

I expect Tom's claim for much improved racing performance is true for
individual horses. Any horse that goes from so so care and conditioning
into a good feed/work environment should make great gains.

I've read a number of times over the years that TB racing times have changed
very little in the last 100+ years. The small gains observed are thought
to be mostly because of improved track conditions, better shoes, and of
course better health (parasite control, fewer illness) and better nutrition,
especially for youngsters.

On the Standardbred front all of the above plus better design of the bikes
used.

The horse pretty much reached his maximum genetic potential many eons ago
with out our help.

People, on the other hand, have a long way to go yet.
{ :> )) lol (this is a joke, don't get excited)
