[RC] To Nancy - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: ti Tivers@xxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== Thanks. As a former distance runner, then competitive cyclist, I have been wondering if I am making a mistake in applying training techniques that work with human athletes to the physical conditioning of a horse. Am I understanding correctly that the same training strategies are appropriate for the two different species? Nancy Sturm> The strategies being things like progressive loading, specificity of exercise, supportive nutrition. The tactics being LSD, intervals, hill works (weight lifting), work/recovery rebound scheduling, physiological monitoring, periodization, work targeted at cardiovascular development, structural strength, neuromuscular coordination, etc.. Yes, these are all the same. All you have to keep in mind is that the horse can do just a little more this Monday than he did last Monday. Take it a small step at a time and you can't miss building a better athlete. ti =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
