Tom - in your research and testing, have you found a correlation between
resting heart rate, and ES, or VO2max? or even general performance?

Over the very long term, years rather than months, yes, but not real useful, 
say, over a period of 6 months. On the other hand, RHR can be very usefull in 
picking up the signs of exercise intolerance, injury, disease or overtraining 
(insufficient recovery/nutritional support between hard exercises).

If you leave a HR monitor on overnight, and keep the horse at rest, you can 
also pick up the circadian rhythm of the individual--and manipulate it to some 
degree.
