[RC] Marching into Tevis Top Ten - JonniSteve's suggestion of looking at times of riders into vet checks can also work for those who just want to finish. Tevis stats are available for many years. When I made previous attempts, I looked at what times riders arrived at certain stops on average, to finish when I wanted to finish. Then, I rode with those times in mind. If late to a stop, I asked a tad more of the horse, to help get to the next stop on target. Kind of like doing a competitive (NATRC) ride, in which we have suggested times to each stop. And, in doing NATRC for years (long before GPS's) I knew how to pace myself and the horse by feel, not by looking at my GPS ,which I love, and DO use for pacing these days, but found I was fine without it at Tevis. Now, as for marching into Top ten, having a great horse like Steve rode, and years of experience in endurance like Steve has, helped. Steve, congratulations on your top ten. I know you took a couple years away from riding, but you made a very impressing "come back". Well done!
