Yes, it does have a strong vinegar oder, so it might irritate some horses. BUT, he didn't really get it into the skin. What he did, especially if there was already a bare spot, was ring the silicone around it and let it cure a bit, then rub some carefully over the top so it mostly "capped" the ring. It always caused comments from the vets, that's probably why NIna used the white.Nancy Mitts
