There was a great remedy for scratches in endurance stories on Endurance net a few years ago.  It was equal parts Nitrofurazone, DMSO gel, and the paste wormer that is fenbedazole(or something like that).  After a year of battling the stuff, this really works.  I told my farrier about it and it has helped many horse owners in our humid climate.
