[RC] Any vets on ridecamp right now? Lameness question - Kristi SchaafHeya - For any vets out there...a question for ya. Hubby's horse sunk in a bad bog a few hours ago. He came out a little off and we headed back to the trailer (about a mile). By the time we got home (an hour trailer ride) he couldn't lift his rear hind leg. He has to drag it to walk, and prefers to not move if at all possible. He's tender to the touch on his femoral bicep. The vet/chiro is out of town until Monday but will look at him then. I don't expect anyone to do any diagnosis via email but if you had an unknown lameness originating in the hip/hindquarters somewhere would you confine the horse until diagnosed or would you allow him to move unrestricted when he wants? We let him 'drag' himself out to the pasture but I'm wondering if we should limit his movement until we know what's going on. On the other hand, maybe free choice movement would help keep any strained muscle from getting even more stiff? I will separate him from the other horses so he doesn't have to move when the alpha says to....Thanks, Kristi iluvdez at yahoo dot com Life's a journey, so enjoy the ride (and try not to fall off) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
