Re: [RC] Mentoring - Kathy RamspottI did my first (and so far only) 50 on Aries with Jody and Jonni and hands down it was the best possible thing for me. I had done a couple 25's on horses that I since determined do not have the mindset for endurance. I am starting one now and will do my best to start him in 50's. I say that because although there was much more pain involved (mine) it was just so much more satisfying to ride a 50 then to ride a 25 and some how it seemed to go by much faster for me. I do think partly because I wasn't worried about the horse AT ALL. Aries is a machine and it was awesome. I learned so much from Jody and Aries that I recommend them as mentors to anyone!!Kathy R - SE Sarah Seashols wrote: I agree too. I’m a newbie who has been lurking around for a while and finally figured out subscribing to Ridecamp, and having just started to condition my horse, I have to say that riding with a mentor on an experienced horse would be, hands-down, a best case scenario for starting in endurance. I think it would really instill confidence. I just feel really nervous about being inexperienced (in endurance) and taking out an equally inexperienced horse --having that security of an experienced mentor and an experienced mount would make the first ride or two a little less stressful and more pleasant experience. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
