Re: [RC] crazy idea....new riders/mentoring - rides2farthought that might or might not work but would make it easier for the experienced people to know who might need their help. What if new riders were assigned a ribbon to wear What I have seen work well is for the ride manager to be the go between hooking people up with someone to pace with on ride day. Face it, it's scarey to just say "I'll take a newbie" when you haven't had a chance to size them up, but I wouldn't be opposed to telling the manager, "I'm taking it easy tomorrow and wouldn't mind helping somebody out". A good ride manager can make a judgement call, then probably has a good idea who of the experienced riders would be good examples and aren't planning on racing the next day. Another possibility would be discussing it at the new rider's meeting. If there are some experience riders who would be interested in doing this, maybe we could bring that up in the education committee.
