RE: [RC] - Chastain, Shannon L.My horse was totally sound after our first LD but I on the other hand could barely walk for a week:-) Shannon -----Original Message----- From: ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of terre Sent: Monday, July 25, 2005 11:35 AM To: ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [RC] I suspect that fear of hurting one's horse (or one's self) is a big hurdle to getting more people to ride 100s. Think of an endurance ride as a HIKE, not a run. To the horses, it's more like hiking. You know, walking 3 miles a day seems like plenty for me but if I need to I can just keep walking all day. That's pretty much how it seems to affect them once they're conditioned. I've always felt that LDs are harder on the horse than the rider, 50s are equally hard on both, and 100s are harder on the rider than on the horse. Just my opinion, of course! terre =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
