Re: [RC] [RC] ? WEC 2002 -where are they now? - RDCARRIEIn a message dated 1/21/2005 3:58:04 PM Eastern Standard Time, "Laura Hayes" <mark@xxxxxxxxxx> writes: Kathy asked where the WEC 2002 horses are, and why they are not 3000 mile horses...well, I can only guess as to why some of them don't get to 3000 miles. ?My guess would be that if they are not, it may be because they were asked to go faster than most of the horses who eventually go 3000 miles, or with specific goals in mind, those riders chose to ride those horses in just 'premier' rides, and not every ride within driving distance. ?It is just another way to ride endurance. ?Just my thoughts. This makes sense to me. A rider who lives near me races for placement/points, etc. in both 50s and 100s. This person has a number of horses. Each horse might do quite well in the ride in which it's ridden, but the rider doesn't race an individual horse all that many times during a year - the horses get quite a bit of time between races. So, although these horses may not be accumulating a ton of mileage and may never reach the 3000 mile club, that doesn't mean that they are breaking down, etc. - they're not. The rider is just spreading the rides/races out among a number of horses, according to the rider's goal(s) for a given year. As Laura said - we all have different goals and preferences for how we participate in this sport. The best part of AERC (besides, of course, just riding...) is that we can all have different goals and different avenues to pursue them... Yep!
