[RC] Horse Digestion - Jonni

I've been thinking about feeding soaked beet pulp
before a ride to pre-load their system with highly
digestable fiber. If you start feeding too early you
waste expensive feed, feed too late and you don't give
them the energy they need late in the ride.

I have never thought of beet pulp as expensive, nor a waste. Many horses
get it daily anyway. But, I usually increased the very sloppy beet pulp
mashes starting 2 days before the ride, giving a good sized one the night
before, but only a smaller one the AM of the ride. Lots of good info on
Susan Garlinghouses web site.
