[RC] Hauling other people's horses - Kristi SchaafI hauled an acquaintance's horse 4 hours each way to a clinic that I was attending. I was fine with splitting gas costs, though deep down I was a little disappointed that she didn't offer more, considering that I went out of the way to get her and she slept in my gooseneck the whole weekend. But, it was my fault for not specifying what I felt was 'fair' so that's water under the bridge. Anyway, what I was NOT fine with was that when I got home and was cleaning up my trailer I found that her horse had used his teeth to make big raking gouges on my new $40K trailer's manger! Those will be there forever. I realize that horses DO things to trailers, and if it had been my horse, I would have said "oh well" (but I don't worry much about stuff like that since my guys are good travelers). It made me realize that every time I put someone else's horse in my trailer, any damage that horse does, cosmetically or functionally, I'll be paying a price. Since I'd prefer to keep future damage to my trailer limited to things that are my fault, I doubt I'll ever consider volunteering to haul anyone else's horse again. Bah humbug, I know.
