Re: [RC] Ice Water Please Rather Than Other?!? - heidiOK, I'm really confused on this one...perhaps someone with more enlightenment can explain. BTW the two horses are stalled at night on really cold nights, with hay and heated water buckets. Released them this morning to go out and what do they want? Ice Water!! There's a stock tank with heated water and a large muck bucket with iced water in it. They choose the iced water...never mind it is completely frozen over. They are willing to raise hoof to break it. I did them the honors with a mallet. Then one of the two drinks quite a bit and the other just a sip or two. Is this normal behavior or what is going on here? We provide them with warmed water and they want the iced water instead? Yes, have checked the tank and there is no indication of electrocution danger. Thanks.... Since you have ruled out electricity as the problem, check for other palatability factors with the water--is it stale, does it have anything in it that oxidizes when warm and makes it smell or taste funny, is it clean, etc. And is it TOO warm? While it is true that horses will generally drink warmish water far better than ice-cold water, if it is approaching HOT, they might not be so eager to drink it.
