Re: [RC] Trails Preservation for the Present and Future - Barbara McCrary
It would be a perfectly good idea, if we
could be sure that our fees did indeed go for trail construction and
maintenance. Trouble is, often times, fees go into a general fund and
whichever need arises first gets the money. I like the idea of horsemen
working on trails to construct or maintain, but sometimes the parks or public
lands agency won't allow personal help. It has to be done through their
channels.
We offered to build a trail once, and I
truly believe the two of us could have made that trail in one summer's worth of
weekends....for free. The park instead hired teenagers to build it and it
took two years. I admit that they were very neat....no sign of cut brush
anywhere. I don't know where they put it. We would have cut the
brush and tossed it over the edge of the trail....not so tidy, but lots
faster. Of course, it was a wonderful experience for the youth group.....I
approve of teens having to do some hard work, instead of playing computer games
all summer, as I've known some to do.
Back to the original question, If I could be
CERTAIN that the fee money went for trails, and trails alone, I would support
it.
Subject: [RC] Trails Preservation for the
Present and Future
Riding along the Tevis Trail, traveling from
Lower Quarry to Brown's Bar there is an Off Road Dirt Bike Park at Mammoth
Bar. Extremely disturbing as far as Noise Impacts to the North American River
Canyon and it's normal peaceful environment. And some venture beyond
their bounds. Anyways, I was informed that when Off Road vehicles are
registered? There is a "Blue Sticker" that they pay an additional Fee to
maintain and create more of these off road parks. I thought to myself - that's
a good idea for Equestrians as well. Just a suggestion? But why can't
AERC as an example have an optional "Green Sticker" fee to preserve our Horse
Trails? Any comments are welcome.
