RE: [RC] Well said, Heidi - heidiTruman, I've been involved in a lot of organizations and the ones that don't evolve don't survive. I think AERC has done a good job of maintaining the spirit of the sport and meeting the needs of its members. If it doesn't meet those needs, there will be no members and no organization. It's got to grow or die, and I'm thank ful it's growing! Instead of looking back at the good old days, which usually really weren't so good if we look at all the angles, it might be more productive to determine what can we do to increase activity at the 100 mile level, if that's what people want. The destruction of the year-end points championship was NOT one of AERC's better moves. Yes, the sport is growing--but how much more MIGHT it grow if AERC had not struck off the sort of competition that kept many members riding? I have no quarrel with the new programs that have evolved--and yes, an organization (or an organism) must evolve or die. But just as a healthy organism does not cut off one of its body parts to evolve, neither should an organization. And that is what AERC did in this case. And once again, just adding this program back would very likely increase participation on 100s. Just because an idea worked "back then" does not ALWAYS mean that it won't work now! Good change is good. Not all change is good change. Heidi =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
