RE: [RC] AERC Directions - 1 Day 100's - heidiThe national points award became know as the "great trailer race" and your observations are valid. Trouble with the Championship Series was it wasn't supported by very many so it really didn't mean much. Sure, it got called that by the losers. If you go back and look at the stats, though, many national champions didn't have to travel all THAT far from home, and most rode in three regions or less. And it isn't JUST about #1--it was entirely possible to place in the Top 25 without ever leaving your own region. I know, because I did it. I did not have money, and I did not have a fancy rig. I just had a good horse and went to the rides closest to home. What really bothers me, though, is the notion that it is one or the other. There is NO conflict with having a national points championship and also having the weight divisions recognized, and also having the one-ride format that we have now. They are DIFFERENT types of championships. I also think that Steph's observation that more people proportionately did 100s to earn the triple points when there was a points championship is absolutely valid. It was certainly a factor for me, and I know it was for a lot of other people. AERC is missing the boat on this one.
