Re: [RC] Future AERC Directions - Was 100 Mile One Day Rides - Truman PrevattSteph Teeter wrote:I wonder if some of the decline in 100 milers is because we no longerThere is always attrition. Every year some people that "do 100's" will stop doing 100's. If the number of new people start doing 100's is the same as the number that stop, the pool will be stable. If more start doing 100's the pool will grow and if fewer start doing 100's the pool will decline. I don't think it is as complicated as how a champion is crowned, be it by points over the year, one race or being brought down from the top of Mount Siani on stone tables. The AERC is growing - the 100's are not. New people are not coming into the pool of 100 mile riders at the rate they were leaving. I think the explosive growth of multiday rides has much more to do with it than how a "champion" is crowned. In reality very few people really ever participated in the "great trailer race" chasing points. If it came back very few would chase it again. Ten years ago, the progression was from 50's to at least try a 100. There were very few multiday rides. Today it seems to be the progressions is from single 50's to multidays for most I don't think that is good or bad, just reality.
