Re: [RC] The Science of Sport Boots...please READ! - rides2farIn the late 1980s, a study conducted by William Crawford, DVM, at the > University of Madison-Wisconsin, devised an experiment to measure > the > shock-absorbing capacity of the company's Sports Medicine Boots. Ahh, but did he measure the effects on a horse's body when he changes his gait because built up sand is rubbing his hide under the boot? What about heat build up? I'm afraid the greatest shock absorbing Nike in the world would not help my running if it rubbed my heel...therin lies the problem. I got a pair of Sports Medicine boots in a trade. They were a tremendous help to my uncle's mare which had has some sort of surgery to clip her tendons when young and they had drawn up on her. Right now they're on loan to a 27 year old horse I used to own who bowed both front tendons. They really seem to be the difference in him being able to live comfortably or having to be put down. I would not compete in them though. I have seen the legs of some horses who did compete in them rubbed totally raw. I have seen quite a bit of sand in them immediately after I'd done a short ride in them. It's a shame. With no sand to train in that's where I'd most like the support but they'd rub. :-( Angie Angie =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
