RE: [SPAM] Re: [RC] Thumps - heidiIn answer to Angie's statement, I have! My husband's horse was a "I don't want a drink of water" horse and he would thump when he became dehydrated. The last time he did that, he progressed to a colic and had to be IVed right at the vet check. The horse had not been overridden, as I rode every step of the way with him, but that horse just didn't want to drink. Lud finally sold him for a pleasure horse, and he will live to a ripe old age outside of the endurance world. But there again, Barbara, you are describing a horse with another problem going on. Not just the thumps. The dehydration in addition to the thumps is cause enough to not go on--the dehydration all by itself would be reason not to go on. There are horses out there who thump without significant dehydration, and without any other signs of problems. One might well question their long-term suitability for the sport as well, as they thump with very little provocation. But such horses don't tend to crash.
