[RC] Thumps - rides2far

I tend to agree with her "take" on this--when you see a horse with a
pulse of 44 that is eating, drinking, and doing everything else
right> but has a tiny tic in his flank, I think it is silly to pull,

I remember that Maggie Price worked hard to get the "fit to continue"
criteria passed...then right after that at the Biltmore 100 her horse had
the slightest case of thumps at his completion exam for the 100 and she
was pulled. I really felt for her. She took it like a professional but
she knew her horse was fine right then, the vets knew it, but she got
caught in one of those situations where rules that were written for a
good reason catch the wrong person. I don't think I've been at a ride
where a horse that had thumps crashed...could be wrong. I'm more afraid
of quiet guts and "stareing" eyes. So...you vets...is the presence of
thumps an accurate indicator that things are getting ready to go south?
