RE: [RC] scratches or ??? - Linda Cowles

I’m writing for a friend of mine.  She has been dealing with “something” like scratches on her horse for well over 6 months now.  I first saw it last September, but she thought it was just a reaction from wearing interference boots.  The horse has pretty furry legs (even though arab) so she didn’t really pay more attention at the time since it wasn’t obvious.

I fought scratches for 8 weeks following a Fort Schelbourne Multi-day... I tried everything... it's really frustrating...

What finally worked was to stop trying. I turned Gabby out in pasture 24x7, and washed his legs with apple cider vinegar and water (1/4c:1gal dilution) every two or three days to get the pH of his skin back where it should be after all my "treatments".

I spent a fortune on vets and concoctions, and was at the barn at least an hour twice a day.

Nature was better at healing than I was.
