And with six days to go, the very, very best thing she can do for this horse is REST, REST, REST. But "feeding the stuffing out of him" while he's being rested, after he's been working hard, then starting a ride, is a sure-fire recipe for tying up (auzotaria, aka "Monday Morning Disease). Normal ration the next few days then reduce the pellets the last day or two before the ride, and CAREFUL warming up before the start of the ride should be OK. With what she's feeding he'll put on some weight this week just being rested. IMO she should not get on this horse's back until she arrives at the ride site, then no more than just a SHORT, easy, limbering-up ride to work out the kinks from the trip. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
