RE: [RC] [RC] Retrofitting Epics (or "Fun with EZ Boots") - Eric Drew

I retrofitted two easy boots with the gaiter. I found that the easiest way
to do it is to attach the cable nuts on both sides first rather than fully
attach one side then stretch the other around. The way I did it was to have
the gaiter tilted forward so that it didn't touch the back of the boot,
then I attached both cable nuts. It was then easy to rotate the gaiter down
and into place [easy to stretch it this way] and attach the remaining 4
nuts. Take about 5 minutes to do it this way

Lucy,
The front "T nuts" (where the cable attaches) are the same length for the
easy boot or Epic. The longer ones that came with your gaiter are for the
rear screws, 2 on each side. You don't need or want longer screws, you
just
need to take a regular screwdriver and poke out the original shorter nuts
from the boot and put the longer ones in. If you don't completely tighten
the screws at first, it provides a little more "give" until you get them
all
seated, then go back and tighten them all down.
I have 2, size 2 "1st version" gaiters removed from NEW boots for $6.00
each.
Also a few 1st version Epics still intact. 1 size 1, 4 size 0, 4 size 00,
$40 each. Easy Care 90 day warranty will apply.
I am unable to update my website at this time, (a whole 'nother problem)
so
not everything is listed there.
Nancy Mitts,

Well, after trying to add a gaiter to a new EZ boot
last night, I already see why my farrier advised me
to buy some longer screws ahead of time. <g>

I like the part where it says in the instructions
"Use the screw as a lever to pull the gaiter around".
Yeah, right. I managed to screw one in and that was it.
Mucho fumbling and cursing ensued until I gave up
attaching more than one screw.

My new gaiter came with four golden nuts in a small
packet and the instructions insist that I must use
those instead of the ones already in the boot. I
removed one of the original ones from the boot and
it appears to be exactly the same as the four that
came with the gaiter. Is there some special secret
reason I *have* to use the new ones (thus taking all
the strap-stuff etc apart)?
Why do they give you those golden nuts, but not
longer screws?
