Subject: [RC] saddle fitting induced insanity-help - Nikki McCormack

I will say that, until recently, I agreed with Cowboy Ed on this subject. I had the one saddle fits all thing going. However, with our Spanish Mustang gelding we didn't give a thought about saddling him up with our prior horses saddle. We thought his bucking was a bad habit the prior owner had failed to tell us about. Then we did an LD and the poor thing had such a sore back at the end from poor saddle fit that we felt horrible and have now ordered a custom fit saddle that will hopefully (fingers crossed) fix the issue.

I think it is important not to go overboard on the subject, but it is even more important not to put your horse through the pain that our poor boy endured. If you can do one size fits all, that is great, but I think it is very important to remember that they are not all the same. Our horses should never have to suffer simply because we don't want to deal with the time or cost of making sure they don't.

Just my thoughts,
Nikki
