Instead of using a sponge, I carry a small light
weight plastic bucket(the kind vitamins or electrolytes come in) with
a long bale made from sash cord. This is very easy to use and you can
get a lot more water on the horse in a hurry. Just drag the pail through
the water as you go through, you never have to stop and you have a whole bucket
of water to dump on the horse. The sash cord can be attached to each side
by punching holes in the plastic bucket and making a knot on the ends of the
cord too big to slip through the holes. The cord can be laced back and
forth through itself in small coils very quickly. This attaches to the
saddle just as easily as a sponge with a small snap.
