[RC] Endurance Futurity? - rides2farOK folks, I'm cleaning house again and have too much time to think. I hit "Check Mail" between vacuuming each room, then have something to think about while I try to shake that screw back out that I just vacuuamed up. Soo...I get kinda depressed when I see posts about galloping in circles 100 miles and get to thinking about how to get folks back on "the path". You know, what's dear to my heart is the idea of pulling more riders into the 100 miles "just because" crowd and I had an idea. JUST FOR FUN. What if we had a "futurity". Not one where they take young horses and push them too fast to do amazing things when they're 2 or 3. What if I said, "Hey, everybody who just bought a new horse that they have great hopes for...put up $10 and enter the AERC futurity. The horse can't have done any endurance miles yet (or we could call this the first season)...but in his 3rd season...he's got to COMPLETE a 100 to get his share of the pot...split evenly between all nominees. You *know* the attrition rate of people who "plan" to do a 100 and those who finally get there. I'm figuring if we had a good turn out it would payback 10 to 1! I'd nominate Josie's horse just to give her a time-line. Maybe we should say they have to do at least 300 miles of endurance in the first 2 seasons. That's low enough for the folks who train a lot but campaign on a more limited basis. Maybe a percentage could even go to the trails fund or something. Anybody think that sounds fun?
