FEI COC Rule. (RE: [RC] Pine Tree 100 preliminary results) - Steph TeeterNik - and others - here's another example of why the new FEI rule, effective January 2006 - which says you must finish at 12kph or 13:20 ride time to earn a Championship COC (qualification) - is simply too inflexible. Top finishers at Pine Tree CEI*** took 14+ hours. Hot humid conditions. None of the riders could use this ride to earn their COC. FEI needs to revise or amend the rule to accomodate ride conditions which are not conducive to 13:20 ride times (heat/humidity or terrain or extreme weather or whatever). Either allow rides to petition for an exclusion to the rule (even afterwards, if ride conditions altered the outcome) or change it so that it is based upon a percentage of the winning time (let the winning time be the standard, not an arbitrary number that works best on flat fast courses). In my opinion, since rules are slow to change, the best course for FEI to follow would be to allow petitions for exclusion, i.e. allow certain rides to petition the FEI to alter the criteria used to determine the COC cutoff. Use some common sense in this respect. The intent of the rule is to set the bar higher for Championship level events. This (imo) is fine, but FEI must allow some flexibility into the rule. USEF, and other Federations (Malaysia) need to keep an open dialogue with FEI regarding this. The Pine Tree ride is a prime example of a case where the ride managers could/should petition the FEI Endurance committee to consider the ride and conditions, and allow another option (e.g. percentage of winning time) in determining COC criteria. cc: Ian Williams - Manager, Endurance - FEI cc: Mary Lutz - USEF, Endurance Director Steph -----Original Message----- From: ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Ridecamp Guest Sent: Monday, June 27, 2005 6:05 AM To: ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [RC] Pine Tree 100 preliminary results Please Reply to: Kathy Brunjes brunjesk@xxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== Tom Hutchinson, ride manager, asked me to post the following. We will have the 30/50 results in a day or two; having the temps in Maine turn high 90s low 100s with over 80% humidity after a cold wet spring (just one week ago, we were averaging temps in the high 40s with rain every day) was extremely challenging for horses, riders, crews and ride staff. here is Tom's post: Pine Tree AERC 100 / FEI 100 was held Saturday in very very tough heat and humidty conditions. The thermometer under the vets tent was 100 degrees during the day! 42 horses started the 100 and 15 completed. Good job to everyone. 5 Southern girls traveled up to compete in the NAEC Selection ride and all completed. Thanks to the great vet staff (Art, Ann, Nick, Ron and Larry) and the great FEI staff (Belinda, Ellen, Donna, Stagg, Cheryl, and Ann). The crews were especially needed and loved that day. 100 Mile Results Julie Bullock/Iron Will 14:07 and BC Betty Baker/Synematic 14:07 Kathy Downs/Moon Sarah Engsburg/Koweta Vanna Kaye Nina Barnet/Zorro Connie Walker/Electric Smoke Samantah Thomson/Dirty Money Kathy Brunjes/Theatric Steve Rojek/Finally Krista Alderdice/Song Mindy Vienneau/Thunder Alicia Mansuetti/Patrolons Star Sandy Thomson/Bey Shamala Melody Blittersdorf/Danika Wendy Bejarano/Jake All together, over 100 horses started the three distances, and the completion rate averaged about 50%. We will post the three distances soon. Thanks to everyone for your help. Tom =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
