Re: [RC] re: for women only-a bit long... - Mary Ann Spencer
Interesting responses. Women have been kept
'down' due to their vulnerabilities.. ie not as much muscle mass, not as strong
and the 'curse'. Life cycles have changed DRAMATICALLY this
century. Medical and nonmedical treatments of the curses of women have
really improved how women live. An Analogy: It took simple HAND
WASHING to decrease the deaths of women in child birth.... doctors did not wash
after tending others, including dead ones... amazing anyone surrived. Hey
all, NO GLOVES>>>>>>>>>>>>>!!!!! in
those days. Public Health has done MARVOLOUS THINGS FOR EVERYONES
LONGEVITY and especially for women. We live longer than men becuz we are
more attuned to our bodies. Women used to be ostracized during the week of
the curse or the rag. Wonder where the term RAG came from? Well
Kotex is a modern thing. After spending time overseas in not so
modern area, it is AMAZING how any women survive-lack of clean runnig water for
starters.
In America, especially, we enjoy more freedoms
and healthy lifestyle than most other countries... Europe has also achieved
this. We do have extremely special problems to overcome that men
don't have. HOWEVER, after a man hits middle age, the pendelum changes
dramatically. Could get specific but it would scare some as I work
ER.
Now that we are living longer and better, more
research is happening. Average age of death is increasing. WOMEN are
still living longer than men. Both sexes have some MAJOR health obstacles
as they age. Lots of info can be found on net. Many yrs ago in
nursing school, an instructor said:
If we live long enough, we will eventually get
cancer, heart disease or diabetes. That is still true, unless you get
wiped out in an accident. We must be our own health advocate to get the
most out of our years.
One thing that is GREAT overalll body conditioning
is horse back riding. All those who have had every dang muscle ache after
a 50 mile ride know what I am talking about. There is some research
showing good bone mass in those who ride. After my first 50 miler, a while
back(don't ask which decade), it was agony to go from any sitting position to
anyother position. Never knew I used my triceps for riding. If you
look back on your aches aftter your first 50, you will realize we use our entire
body to ride.
SO EVERYONE, JUST KEEP RIDING. STOP USING
TOBACCO, AND PRACTICE OTHER THINGS IN MODERATION AND WE WILL HAVE MORE
TRAILS.
NONE OF US IS GETTING OUT OF THIS
ALIVE. Good luck on your quest to 'keep trucking'.
Do your own research about health and learn from the experience of others.

Until fairly recently, that "problem" and childbirth were the
main cause of death among women. More women outside of US and Europe
still die from childbearing and it's accompanying plumbing problems
than from any other cause.
On the other hand, I went into
menopause abruptly five years ago on the death of my husband. Things
had been a bit irregular (unlike for most of my life when it was all
clockwork) so I suppose I was getting to that time anyway, but from
the day he died I never had another period. To be honest, I
rather missed it. I always felt that it was sort of a biological
rinse cycle and never was particularly inconvenienced. Don't
know if someday I might still need a hysterectomy for another reason
though.
