I was listening to a country station yesterday that was interviewing a musician and he was asked what got him started in music. He said that when he was a kid, he once casually mentioned to his mother that he thought he might like to learn to play guitar. The next day his mother signed him up for lessons! He had a great teacher who taught him what he wanted to play rather than the scales and such, and he found his passion. He mentioned that no one in his family was musical at all, they were into hockey.
