[RC] coughing - Dawn Simas

My horse was diagnosed last year with a congenital condition called Dorsal Displacement of the Soft Palate (DDSP).  It is prominent in thoroughbred lineage and is heavily studied in the racing industry.  It hasn't ever caused any trouble, he displaces it and coughs a few times when we first pick up the trot sometimes (once or twice a month, if that), then can go for hours and not do it again.  But this summer, he has been struggling with it suddenly more often.  I suspect it is allergies or dust, and that has aggravated the DDSP, because this same flare up happened to him and his brother June, 2004, and just started in both horses this month again.

My question for all of you is has anyone tried "Cough Free" or any products for coughing?  I think if I get the coughing under control because of the season, the DDSP will settle down too.

After trying this option, I am looking at surgery this winter in the off season.  But just want to get him through the summer comfortably if possible.

Thank you for any advice!

Dawn
