In the west, the equivalent of Ft. Howes would be 20 Mule Team, including 
the warning.

Also, the Californios 100 has all the same wonderful qualities (as well as 
being a perfect tune up for Tevis), but is hillier.  (In my book, a good 
thing--makes it easier to go slower!)
