Re: [RC] Cavalry and Calvary horses ridden to town - Nancy Sturm

Hi Ed,

I also came to enduraance from driving (and other disciplines). When I
thought I was too old to ride, I bought a 14.1 hand pony, a meadowbrook
cart and some nice leather harness. I still have all of this stuff (pony
included) but I quickly became bored with having nowhere to go. I could
drive about two miles from my house across an open hay field and up a farm
road ... and then I could drive back. Yuk - I got on the pony and headed
for the hills and haven't got bored yet!

Before I did endurance, I rode and drove on a charity wagon train. The
year
I trained a buggy horse, I decided that I better take her on city streets
with traffic etc. I drove 6 miles to the feed mill in town. I went in
and
ordered my feed. The clerk asked me where my truck was parked. I said
"Its
the only horse and wagon outfront". The whole feed store instantly
emptied
to see this. The 70 year old owner said that this was the first horse
she
could remember in the last 30 years.

Unfortunately, I get bored with horses walking so I trained her mostly
at
the trot. After 3 days walking at 3 mph on the wagon train, she went
bonkers. I had to pull her from the train, and then decided to try CTR
and
endurance. I've never looked back.
