Yes, the weather at the OD this year was brutal,
but that doesn't tell the whole story. We've had a cold, wet spring.
Then, less than ten days before the OD, someone flipped a switch and it was
instantly hot. None of the horses had an opportunity to
acclimate to heat and humidity before the ride.
Yes, there were lots of pulls. And the
times were unusually slow because riders were being so very cautious.
As horrible as the weather was, the treatment vet had little to do
and there were zero IV bags hung. That is a testament to the
quality of the OD riders.
