Made it bleed cause it was not ready to come off but it was healed enough to be fine for the ride if he didn't pull the scab off! Of course the horse was tender after that. I didn't know if that was against the AERC rules and didn't know to make a stink or not. Is that against the rules? There's no rule that covers that, that I know of. All this reminds of a incident one year at a priemier East Coast 100 mile ride. I had been going nearly every year, until the year they didn't allow Kahlil to start because he wasn't "sound." True, he was a bit off at the pre-vet, but at that time he was having that problem at some rides and he always warmed up out of it and was 100% sound by the first vet check. My telling them that didn't cut any ice, so I saddled up and rode him a couple of miles and brought him back to the vets. Well, they admitted he'd improved, so now they pulled up his front leg and twisted the hell out of it, and had me trot him out again -- sure enough, he was lame for the first few steps. It was like they were determined to support their initial decision. We didn't get to start, and I never went back to that ride again. A few weeks later Kahlil was in exactly the same condition at the pre-vet at the Race of Champions, where he was allowed to start -- and he was sound at every vet check, and finished sound. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
