Re: [RC] Ouch (Tight Rear Muscles) - Jody Rogers-ButtramVal,
Hi, I ride a 1/2 Arab, 1/2 Paint mare. So, I have been a little worried about the problem myself. But, so far so good. What do we do? Sorta a combo of what you just listed. Certainly if it is cool, NO water on the rump or back, in that case I wouldn't pull tack unless the vets said I had to. I have seen many riders throwing cold water (on cool days) on the horse to get him down, when the cold water was doing just the opposite. Poor horse was in shock from the cold water !!! If the weather is cool, be careful with the water. Try to have something to cover them with. I love my Irish knit sheets. I have two of them, one for my horse and the other for Joni's. They let the horse cool off some, but hold in some heat as well. If I am stuck in a line for the vets, I wouldn't try to walk in circles, sometimes tight circles can be worse than better. Maybe rub the muscles and then PRAY that the
line moves on faster.
