RE: [RC] OUCH - heidi

As long as we're pointing out pet peeves...if you're a new vet out there
and notice people avoiding you...take a look at how you check a horse's
back and then look at how the experienced vets do it. New vets often have
a bad habit of digging in with their fingertips. FLAT hand, firm
pressure. We do want to know if our horse's back is sore. We don't want
to know if you have a good enough grip to put a horse that's never been
ridden on the ground. :-)

Yeah, that, and the ones that pinch tendons and suspensories as if bound
and determined to make the poor horse drop to his knees. Watched one
green vet one time rolling a pencil up and down over a splint, trying
to make the horse flinch. It was even more aggravating because it was
at a stop-and-go check, my horse was pulsed down, and I was trying to
find a free vet--and this guy spent maybe 4-5 minutes on this
"project"....
