Re: [RC] OUCH - rides2far.Wake up green vets. Thanks for the seasoned Otis vets. I didn't mean to sound snotty. The green vets are usually very conscientious, they just don't realize that 2 minutes feels like a year when you want to *know* you made it (and avoid a horse tightening up)! Otis is probably more aware that horse is liable to tighten up than most riders who come in. He'd be the first to meet you with the stethoscope, take a quick pulse and say "trot him!". :-) I've noticed that some of the vets who did things that I wished they wouldn't do change a lot after they start to compete (which an awful lot of our vets do). They see things through the rider's eyes and suddenly understand. As long as we're pointing out pet peeves...if you're a new vet out there and notice people avoiding you...take a look at how you check a horse's back and then look at how the experienced vets do it. New vets often have a bad habit of digging in with their fingertips. FLAT hand, firm pressure. We do want to know if our horse's back is sore. We don't want to know if you have a good enough grip to put a horse that's never been ridden on the ground. :-) Angie =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
